Eyez is a grime MC from Derby who’s been at it for a while now. There are freestyles of his knocking about on YouTube from as far back as eight years ago, but he started rapping at age eleven. Last year, he released an EP featuring some key names from the burgeoning grime scene in Australia, which was produced by Z Dot.
His latest track is titled ‘Boxing Bars’ – it’s produced by Z Dot & Krunchie, continuing the working relationship he’s been building with the former over the past few years. It riffs on the boxing theme in the title, opening up with the impactful bar “I don’t box like Dillian Whyte / but I’ve got boxes if you’re dealing with white / that’s nine ounces on my hands / come like the gloves on Dillian White.” It’s a straight unloading of bars, with Eyez crafting some deft wordplay around a whole host of fighters from past and present.
No hook or chorus on this one, and it’s all the better for it. Eyez spars on the mic as casual as a boxer getting ready for a top billing fight – we feel like this one will go off live.
