Regardless of what you think to his delivery – Discarda is a true grime original, and his style has surely set the blueprint for a lot of MCs going for the amped up vibe. He’s mainly known for his classic bars that light up a set, but in recent time he’s been focusing on porting that energy into tangible tracks. Last years ‘Waterboy‘ crystallised his famous eight bar of the same name on wax, with a load of other classics in the verses. What’s stood out is his ear for a beat – JLSXND7RS and Ironsoul handled production for ‘Waterboy’, and Kahn is on the buttons for this brand new tune.

The track in question is titled ‘Killstreak’ and features Irah, with the two going back to back and delivering bars that live up to the title. It’s a straight hype track, concerned only with doing maximum damage on the speakers. The two come through with some great one liners, Discarda telling any potential opps “In your bollocks / I’ll boot ya” and Irah warning he will “send any boy to the embalmer.” The track gets the automatic quality of grime over very well, as the two trade bars the verses as they would live, keeping the energy up throughout. The instrumental is pretty minimal, giving enough space for the MCs to do the dirt but still carrying some heavy weight on the low end.

Overall, ‘Killstreak’ is a great track with plenty of character. Discarda seems to have nailed down a winning formula. Rather than try and pander to any sort of mainstream, he’s stuck to what works for him, but chosen top quality instrumentals to spit over. If this is the tongue wetter for ‘A Lyrical Pot of Marmite’ – we’ll be keeping our ears open for what’s next.
