Nolay‘s pen runs deep. Since her Unorthodox days, she’s been releasing hard lyrics over grime and rap beats. Her latest full length record was released last year – titled ‘III‘ – features thirteen booming tracks with beats from a wide range of producers. She also featured on one of our favourite sets of all time, this freestyle on the Tim Westwood show from 2009.
Her latest track is called ‘The Godmother’, a diss track for Wiley. Over a beat by Act Natural Beats, she calls out the lack of Black women in Wiley’s video for ‘Heatwave’; asks why he hasn’t promoted Cadell’s music as much as others in the scene, directs shots at Wiley by re-purposing his flow to send a diss his way; and claims his idea of going ‘back to the village’ is just a smokescreen for his music not doing very well.
We don’t know if Wiley will send back, but if the two do end up sending tracks back and forth, it could make for a pretty interesting lyrical battle.
