Lady Ice has been grinding for a while; but her exposure to the masses came via ‘The Rap Game UK’. The eventual winner was Kiico – who seemed to slot naturally into the PlayDirty roster, even if he was a safe choice from the standpoint of the judges. That didn’t stop Lady Ice, though. She spat jet plane grime flows, rapped whole-heartedly from a place of pain and proved her chops in the intense battle arena of a clash. Previous singles ‘111’ and ‘Do That For’ both favoured melody and showcases of her expansive vocal range, mining her Caribbean background to its full effect. Versatility is something she prides herself on, and it works to her advantage.

Her latest single is titled ‘First’, the track she performed live on 1Xtra in the final of the show. It’s a hard bodied drill tune: she sends shots at clout vampires over a beat dripping in haunted melodies. Ice’s varied delivery is on full show here, as she contorts her voice into wild shapes over the beat. Overall, it’s probably her best track so far and we can’t wait to hear what’s next.
