Vision is a word thrown around a lot in what is considered ‘underground’ music, or music that is not considered to be mainstream focused. Not many have it. Luckily, DAWN is an artist that does have it, and she has it in abundance. After all, she was the first ever artist to do a YouTube live 360 performance, and her Boiler Room show in 2016 featured a triangle monument constructed especially for the gig. Previously, her trilogy of albums dominated the discourse around her, while last years ‘new breed’ drew from her roots down in New Orleans.

Her latest work comes in the form of double single ‘Ay Papi‘ and ‘Slim Thicc‘. The former is an expansive R&B record that spins a tale of a blinsiding love, DAWN’s progressive range doing flips all over the beat. Later on, the beat dims for Brooke Candy to drop a guest verse. The latter picks up on dancehall vibes, showing DAWN’s ability to find pockets in various genres and stamp her mark all over them. Overall, the two tracks are a nice warm up for what is to come later on, and surely the coming album won’t disappoint.
