Queenie is a grime MC from London who was active in the early era of grime, featuring on this Practice Hours freestyle with Lioness. She also featured on the absolute banger ‘Grab That Mic‘, an all female link up track, that, in hindsight seems gimmicky in execution but goes hard nonetheless. After a brief break from music – she laid a verse on the best grime track of 2018 – ‘DBT Remix‘, a track put together by Lioness and featuring some great MCs, tackling the subject of colourism with razor sharp bars.

Her latest track – titled ‘Laid Out‘ – was released at the beginning of February and the visuals to accompany it were released yesterday. Queenie spits unflinching bars, taking aim at rival MC’s and lacing the beat with the same vociferous wordplay she’s been gracing sets with over the past few months.

The instrumental is produced by Ripperman, who mangles a vocal sample and lays the distorted voice over a bed of dissonant melodies that power from the speakers with intensity. The video is also a highlight, featuring Queenie and a host of her friends going mad to the sounds of the track.

Overall, ‘Laid Out’ is a banger and the video elevates the track as a whole. Queenie has been consistent on sets and has been drip-feeding her fans with great tunes, so we’re sure her 2020 will be a hit when it comes to music.
